SysOps / DevOps Poland MeetUp #25
We have the pleasure of inviting everyone interested in SysOps / DevOps topics to the twenty-fifth MeetUp in Warsaw!
- 18:00 Networking
- 18:30 Talk #1: "Apache Cassandra" Tomasz Łasica
The chance that you'll come across Apache Cassandra over the next few years is considerable, since it's the de facto standard in the Enterprise world for NoSQL databases. It's not a particularly easy database — without knowing a few architectural assumptions, life with Cassandra becomes unbearable. However, it has considerable capabilities that will most likely bring Cassandra into the majority of systems in Poland too. During the presentation Tomek will show how you can set up a cluster on your laptop and how Cassandra works, what's interesting about it and why it's becoming increasingly popular. He'll talk about the basic mistakes people make and some of the problems that users run into.
For 2 years Tomek has worked as a Software Engineer in Test at DataStax (the company behind Cassandra's rise to prominence). He mainly deals with integrating Apache Cassandra and Apache Solr, that is, adding full-text search to Cassandra. He roots for the idea of software craftsmanship.
- 19:45 Talk #2: "Analysis of break-ins into client servers and their sites — software flaws seen from the sysadmin's side" Kamil Porembiński
This presentation gives examples of break-ins into clients' servers and applications. What mistakes developers made, what users upload to the server and how administrators see it from the other side. Based on his own experience, Kamil will talk about the kinds of problems he has encountered over the course of 10 years.
Kamil is a systems architect, a Linux administrator and sometimes a Windows one. He likes security topics. He is currently the owner of http://thecamels.org, a company designing highly available systems. He deals with scaling large web applications and supporting startups with server-related matters.
