The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

You'll probably think I've gone mad. Well, no! Even my friend Qrczak (a lifelong Łódź man) was surprised when I said I was going to the Old Market Square to take some photos. First he thought I meant the Bałucki market, and then the Górniak.

And yet it does exist. The Old Market Square, where the word "old" takes on a whole new meaning. Even the pigeons are reluctant to land there! I remember when some friends from Wrocław visited us. To this day they can't pull themselves together after what they saw. One thing is certain. The Old Market Square in Łódź looks better at night than by day. At least you can't see it then!

It's a shame Piotrkowska Street isn't a square. But really, I love this city and the people who live here. Where else in the world do people live like the folk of Łódź, with their migawki (tram passes) and krańcówki (tram loops). And the mere thought of angielki (the local bread rolls) puts me in a good mood.

It all started off normally. I walked Kaja to her stop at Prado de San Sebastián so she could head off to Pablo de Olavide University. I calmly trotted off towards the centre. And that was a mistake!

One day, sitting quietly at my computer, I met Kaja. A strange chain of events led me to decide to visit her in Seville, Spain. I planned my trip so as to see London along the way — the city that has become a paradise of riches for Poles.

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
