The Founder
Can you imagine America without a juicy hamburger served with fries and a Coca-Cola? The company whose logo is two golden arches has an enormous influence on almost the entire world and on contemporary culture. And how did it all begin? Michael Keaton tells that story, taking on the role of Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonald's Corporation.
The Founder is a brilliantly shot story of a fast-food chain that doesn't try to whitewash its history, but shows the two faces of businessman Ray Kroc. On the one hand we meet a simple milkshake-mixer salesman, and on the other we see a visionary, a man of success who pursues his goal.
Many of his actions can be considered dishonourable, ruthless and sometimes vile, and instead of being outraged by it, we admire his entrepreneurship and determination.
The road to the top begins with meeting the two McDonald brothers from San Bernardino, who run a truly fast-service bar. For a few cents you can get a hamburger, fries and a drink there in a matter of seconds. This makes an impression on Kroc, who proposes a joint business to the founders. The McDonalds sign it, not suspecting that they've just signed a pact with the devil that will destroy their dreams.
