The Playbook - A Coach's Rules for Life
The Playbook is another excellent documentary production from Netflix. A short series, made up of five half-hour episodes, tells how people pursue success and face the adversities of fate.
Each episode features a different coach who achieved success in training athletes. They share their approach to the profession and the principles they instil in their athletes, and they talk about the stages on the way to success. And so we can listen to coaches such as:
- Doc Rivers
- Jill Ellis
- Jose Mourinho
- Patrick Mouratoglou
- Dawn Staley
The most fascinating parts of each episode are those in which it's shown how a given coach dealt with various crisis situations. The way they face the challenges before them is both interesting and worth emulating. For example, Doc Rivers fights against racist comments that appeared in his team, while Jill Ellis and Dawn Staley fight against stereotypes that women aren't suited to football, and so on.
The Playbook conveys fairly universal principles that can be applied not only in sport, but also in business or personal life. Here you'll find a recipe for dealing with criticism, what conclusions can be drawn from every defeat, and how to motivate yourself to keep going.
