A Cruise to Hanse Sail Rostock

After the successful Tall Ships Races 2017 regatta, the sailing ship STS Kapitan Borchardt set sail towards Rostock for another sailing festival — Rostock Hanse Sail. Almost 50 hours of sailing on the Baltic Sea is the perfect rest after warm Croatia.

Kapitan Borchardt is a three-masted gaff schooner. It was built in the Netherlands as an ocean-going cargo ship. It sailed under names such as Nora, Harlingen, Mowe, Vader Gerrit, In Spe, Utskar and most recently Najaden. Since 9 October 2011 it has sailed under the Polish flag.

From 6 August 2017, the vessel's home port became Szczecin, and the ceremony of changing the flag took place during the finale of the Tall Ships Races 2017 regatta in Szczecin.

The sailing ship Kapitan Borchardt sailed to Hanse Sail with its permanent crew (captain, boatswain, mechanic and cook, plus four watch officers) and a little group of brave skippers and sailors. The cruise lasted 49 hours.

We sailed in the company of other sailing ships and large passenger vessels. On the Baltic Sea we came across Zawisza Czarny, Dar Młodzieży, Mir and STS Kruzenshtern.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
