Engine failure somewhere off Serifos

Having drained all the coolant (a leak), the engine overheated and began to melt all sorts of hoses, clamps and other rubber and plastic parts. A thick, sweet white smoke spread through the saloon. After switching off the engine, we drifted on the sea, waiting for it to cool down. Once all the hoses were repaired, towards morning we improvised a workaround and fed fresh water from the yacht's tanks into the radiator.

In the port of Livadi on the island of Serifos we met a mechanic, who took a look at the engine. He said that if we kept topping it up with fresh water it would keep going for many more hours. From the island of Serifos we set off onward to Milos.
