Invasion of the Balloons
Late yesterday evening at Stawy Jana, the sky filled up with tiny yellow dots. It wasn't an alien invasion (as a certain tipsy man lying by a tree thought), but hot-air lanterns. And there were thousands of them!
Various colours and shapes. Classic ones and romantic heart-shaped ones. The lanterns were supposed to launch exactly at 10 p.m., but many impatient people let theirs go earlier. The sky quickly filled with flying lights.
Every so often new balloons launched and filled the sky. There really were loads of them. Many people brought several lanterns each.
Despite the lack of wind and the calm night, releasing the lanterns wasn't all that easy. Many couples struggled to light their balloon. Many of them quickly went out or burned up even before being released.
Many of the lanterns drifted into the branches and burned out there. A fair number floated on the water, burning off the last drops of kerosene.
The whole event ended around 11 p.m.

The Old Market Square in Łódź
As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
