It All Began in Zelów

Somewhere in the 13th century, the first mentions appeared of the village of Szelyów, later renamed Zeliów. I actually found out about Zelów fairly recently, but the area around this little town immediately became rather interesting and important to me. Today I managed to head out to the area around Zelów.

Zelów

Apparently, near Faustynów there are some bunkers and shelters built by the "Łódź" Army — an operational group of the Polish Army of the Second Republic in the September 1939 campaign. The road led through small villages and towns. One of them was Pszczółki.

There were quite a few abandoned houses in this village. Some of them were truly ruined. Only rubble remained. One of them, though, you could enter. A lot of things had been left behind by the owners. I wonder what forced them to leave the house?

Driving further towards Faustynów, partly along roads and partly through forest, I managed to get lost. By chance I came upon the Święte Ługi ponds. A very pleasant place for a rest along the way.

Plenty of birds flew over the ponds, adding charm to the place. Getting there was very difficult. The road was practically sandy the whole time, and in places I led the bike through the sand.

Finally, after a long journey, I managed to come upon the bunkers — or rather one shelter out in a field. The ones I wanted to see I must have passed somewhere in the forest. Maybe next time I'll manage it. There really are quite a few interesting places to cycle around the area.

At the end of the day, a beautiful sunset was the reward for getting lost in the forest and the difficult sandy roads. The ride back to Zelów was now really pleasant.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
