It Was Supposed to Be One Night on Lomnický Peak

When I was in the mountains in winter for the first time, I immediately fell in love with the views there. This year I decided to visit Slovakia and spend one night on Lomnický Peak. The ride up to 2,634 m above sea level seemed very simple and pleasant. In the morning we were to leave the mountain hut.

We arrived in Tatranská Lomnica around noon. There was a great deal of snow, the snow cannons were running, and on the slope you could come across countless numbers of skiers.

You could get to the very top by several lifts, which carried tourists higher and higher. The last stage was a small red cable car, which went right up to the top, to the hut, the solar observatory and the Dedo (Grandpa) Café.

At the very summit it turned out that, instead of the planned one night on the mountain, we'd have to stay several, because of the strong wind that began to blow towards evening. At night its speed at the peak reached 210 km/h, and the weather forecasts showed that the wind would only calm down in 3 days. The raging blizzard outside the window cut off the whole building from electricity every now and then. The staff of the solar research centre started up the diesel generators from time to time.

After 3 days spent at the very top, once the winds had died down, the cable car came for us and safely took us down.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
