The POLMOS Łódź Spirits Industry Works

Some time ago, on 13 March to be precise, I went with MMŁódź to another Foto Dej (Photo Day). This time we headed to the POLMOS Łódź Spirits Industry Works. These are perhaps some of the last photos taken in this place.

The POLMOS works are over 100 years old. Vodka and other spirit-based products were produced in them. The spirit drinks were made on the basis of agricultural grain ethyl alcohol, crystal-clear water from the works' own deep wells (Quaternary and Upper Cretaceous strata), as well as natural aromatic and flavouring substances (infusions, fruit macerates, wines, distillates, sugar syrup, caramel).

Now it's all deserted and dusty. In the air you can smell mustiness and the remnants of wines and vodkas. As usual in such places, silence and calm prevail.

You travel back in time and see what your grandparents once looked at. I wonder what will become of this place. Will it collapse on its own from old age, or will someone rebuild it? Another piece of Łódź has been uncovered.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
