The "Próchno i Rdza" Rally

In October, on the waters of the Gulf of Gdańsk, a rally of yachts with soul was held — Próchno i Rdza ("Rot and Rust"). In one place you can come across many yachts important to the history of Polish sailing. You'll meet both steel and wooden vessels that are true oldtimers.

The "Próchno i Rdza" rally is divided into two sections. The steel yachts are Rdza (Rust), and the wooden builds are Próchno (Rot). The main representatives of the classic steel yachts are the so-called "Jotki", that is, the J-80. At the rally you can come across yachts such as "Mestwin", on which Dariusz Bogucki set off on his polar cruises. You'll also meet s/y Freya, on which a voyage was made all the way to Greenland.

The king of Próchno is the Opal type. Yachts of this type rounded Cape Horn and Iceland. They are two-masted wooden yachts with a yawl rig. They were built between 1965 and 1984. At the rally itself you could see 25 yachts with around 250 sailors.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
