Sailing to Allinge-Sandvig

After setting out from Gdańsk we set a course for Visby. It's a Hanseatic town in Sweden, on the Baltic Sea, on the western part of the island of Gotland. The winds, however, knew better, and we sailed to Allinge-Sandvig on Bornholm. It's nice there too!

Sailing at about 3 knots, sometimes under engine, we reached Bornholm after about two days. The sea was really calm — like a lake. When, off Bornholm near the island of Christiansø, ducks began to overtake us, we switched on the engine. It rumbled and we set off again on our way.

In the harbour, free WiFi awaited us, along with showers, electricity to charge the yacht and fresh water to fill the tanks. In the evening we had a barbecue on the rocks by the shore and got to know the local shopkeeper, who joined us. He really took a liking to my lemon liqueur, of which I'd made over 5 litres for the cruise.

At the end of the day we got to watch a beautiful sunset over the island. A calm sea, fabulously colourful clouds. We spent the night in the harbour, and the next day we toured the ruins of Hammershus castle. The ruins of this medieval fortified castle lie at a height of 74 m, on a coastal rock. The whole complex consists of towers and a wall — in places double — 750 m long. There you'll also find ramparts and a moat.

In the afternoon we set sail towards the island of Christiansø — which I call the Island of Gulls.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
