Štrbské pleso – Lake Štrba
At an altitude of 1,346 m above sea level lies a small lake called the Slovak Sea Eye. Lake Štrba (Slovak: Štrbské pleso) — for it's this we're talking about — is a kettle lake in the High Tatras, the second largest on the Slovak side. On average, the lake is frozen for 155 days a year.
On the southern edge of the lake lies a town of the same name. You'll find practically no residential houses there. The town consists mainly of resorts, sports centres, and hotel and sanatorium buildings.
By the southern bay there is a small marina, where you can rent a boat and go out on the lake. A walk around the lake itself takes about 30 minutes on foot.
