A Submarine in Karlskrona

Straight from the picturesque island of Christiansø we set off for Sweden, to Karlskrona. The city lies on thirty-three islands of the Blekinge archipelago, on the rocky coast of the Baltic Sea. Among these islands, underwater, lie submarines…

Looking at the map I saw quite a few small islets and shallow spots. Entering the harbour, you'll have to watch out for shoals and the traffic of other vessels. Plenty of cardinal marks and buoys help with a safe entry into the harbour. We approached the harbour under engine, when suddenly a submarine appeared before our eyes.

Later the Coast Guard called out to us, asking the standard questions, after which we safely moored in the harbour. The yacht was filled with water and given a bit of a charge. We wanted to visit the "Marin Museum", but it was closed to tourists because of a ceremony being held there. We did manage, though, to see how wooden boats are built in a nearby workshop.

We spent only 3 hours in Sweden, since the time to return to Poland was approaching and we still had a fair stretch of road to sail. Setting a course for Hel, we headed out onto the open sea. This time there were no more submarines.

After two days, we reached the Polish coast off Rozewie. Fishing cutters sailing from Władysławowo greeted us in the morning. On the horizon you could see a flickering lighthouse and the beaches in Karwia.

Rounding the Hel Spit, we reached Gdynia to refuel with diesel. The next port was Sopot, where, mooring by the pier, we headed off to a little party. At last the internet was back at normal prices ;-)

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
