Along the Trail of the Eagles Nests

A weekend trip around castles is a good way to walk and sightsee. The Eagles' Nests are a system of medieval castles and strongholds that guarded the border of the Kingdom of Poland. They were built on hard-to-reach limestone rocks reaching up to 30 metres.

The Trail of the Eagles' Nests is a long route running between Kraków and Częstochowa. Along the way you can come across many castles and strongholds. I visited Olsztyn Castle, Ostrężnik Castle, the castle in Mirów and Bobolice.

Olsztyn Castle

It's about 16 km from Częstochowa and is already visible from the road. Olsztyn Castle was built on a hill, from where you can see an interesting panorama of the area, including Jasna Góra. The entrance ticket to the ruins is 5 zł per person. For visiting there are the ruins, a viewing terrace and the remains of the walls.

Ostrężnik Castle

The next point on the trip's route was Ostrężnik Castle. In the "Ostrężnik" reserve, in the middle of a beech forest, you can seek out the castle ruins. On a high limestone rock you can see the remains of a tower and walls.

The rocks beneath the castle are ideal for climbing. At the foot there are also caves.

The castle in Mirów

The castle in Mirów and the one in Bobolice are probably some of the more well-known castles. Many legends circulate about them. One of them tells of the brothers Bobol and Mir, who built an underground tunnel between the castles.

The castle in Bobolice

About 1.5 km from the castle in Mirów is the castle in Bobolice. Touring it costs a fee, while the interiors make an enormous impression. Inside there is a restaurant and a hotel.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
