Zurich and Its River, the Limmat

At the northern tip of Lake Zurich, in the heart of Switzerland, lies the picturesque city of Zurich. Alpine peaks on the horizons, a beautiful lake and a river in the city centre draw tourists from all over the world to see this place. Its multicultural atmosphere and rich array of attractions mean that the main station handles an average of 2,000 trains a day.

The biggest impression on me, however, was made by the river Limmat. It has its source right here, at the northern end of Lake Zurich. It flows through the whole city and looks amazing. The river is short, for after just 35 km it flows into another, larger one called the Aare.

Zurich is associated above all with banks, jewellery, watches and knives. Here you can taste very good chocolate and cold beer. Nightlife here can go on until the small hours. On the beautifully lit old town, people dance, sing and even bathe in the lake. Among the better-known clubs are Kaufleuten, Mascotte and a place for gay people at the Labor-Bar.

Zurich is not just a city of endless partying and nibbling on chocolates. In the city you'll find over 50 museums. One of the more important is the Kunsthaus. It holds collections of works from all the significant periods of European art, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

It's also worth visiting Bahnhofstrasse, the street of banks and exclusive fashion boutiques. There you'll also find countless cafés and department stores. The street was made for spending money. And for those who don't want to spend it, I recommend watching the river's swift current.

The Old Market Square in Łódź

As tends to happen at the end of the year, a little grumbling is in order. That Łódź is a different city from all the rest, I probably no longer need to prove to anyone. Sitting in front of my computer, I realised yet another fact that sets this place apart. We have no Old Market Square!

Foggy Wanderings Around Łódź

Some time ago I went on night-time wanderings around Łódź. The city seemed to me empty, sad and gloomy then. On a certain foggy evening I wanted to set out again and capture the beauty that Łódź hides somewhere within itself.
